Hail and wind damage in Fayetteville, documented properly

Hail doesn't leak the day it lands; it leaks two summers later. We test-square every slope, tie the damage to the storm that did it, and give you an estimate your adjuster can work from.

Chalk circles marking hail bruises inside a test square on an asphalt shingle roof in Northwest Arkansas

Northwest Arkansas has a hail season. Supercells build over eastern Oklahoma, climb the Boston Mountains and unload on Washington and Benton Counties most years between March and June — May 18, 2025 alone put 1¾-inch golf-ball hail on Springdale, 1¼-inch on Johnson and inch hail on Tontitown, all within ten miles of the Fayetteville square, and the April 20, 2025 storm that spun up the EF-1 tornado in Hughmount Village brought hail with it. The May 26, 2024 outbreak did $80 million in damage across Benton County. Wind that day and in every summer front creases and lifts shingles that look fine from the driveway and blow off in the next storm.

What hail does to an asphalt shingle is bruise it: the stone knocks the granules loose and fractures the fiberglass mat underneath. On a north slope under an oak canopy the bruise stays wet, the mat cracks, and the leak shows up a year or two later. That's why the inspection matters more than the repair. We chalk a 10-by-10 test square on every slope, count the hits, photograph each one with a date stamp, check the soft metals — vents, gutters, drip edge — that record hail size honestly, and write it up against the storm date. Eight or more hits in a square is a slope the insurer generally replaces; a handful is a repair we can do for a few hundred dollars without touching your policy.

What's included

Free storm inspection

Roof, attic, gutters, vents, siding and screens — the whole hail story, not just the shingles.

Radar-confirmed hail size and wind for your address on the date in question, attached to the estimate.

We meet your adjuster on the roof, walk the squares together and answer the questions before they become disputes.

Built to the approved scope

The roof gets built to what the carrier approved, with supplements documented if the deck is soft or the code requires more.

Deductible: yours

Never waived, rebated or hidden. That's insurance fraud in Arkansas, and it tells you how a roofer treats paperwork.

Questions we get about hail & storm damage

How do I know if my roof has hail damage?

You usually can't from the ground. Look for dents in soft metal — gutters, downspouts, vent caps, the AC fins — and granules in the gutters after a storm; those tell you hail hit the house. Whether it damaged the shingles takes a test square on the roof, which is what the free inspection is for.

How big does hail have to be to damage a roof?

About an inch (quarter-sized) starts bruising an aging architectural shingle; 1½ inches bruises most standard shingles regardless of age; 2 inches cracks the mat outright. Class 4 impact-rated shingles are tested to take a 2-inch steel ball without cracking.

Should I file a claim for every storm?

No. Insurers in Arkansas have tightened up — many policies now pay full replacement cost on a roof for only about seven years and depreciate it after that, and some add a separate wind/hail deductible. If the damage is below your deductible, or the roof is old enough that you'd get actual cash value, we'll tell you before you file and let you decide. Read the insurance guide.

A roofer knocked on my door after the storm and offered to cover my deductible. Is that normal?

It's common after every Northwest Arkansas hail day, and it's fraud. Misrepresenting to your insurer that you paid a deductible you didn't is a crime for the contractor and for the homeowner. Ask for their Arkansas registration number; most storm chasers don't have one.

How long after a storm can I file?

Most Arkansas policies give you a year from the date of loss, some two, but the sooner the inspection the cleaner the claim — damage from a spring storm is hard to separate from the next one by fall.
